During the week of 1/14/08 over 120 7th graders from Kelvin Grove, Taft, and St. Dennis completed the Gang Resistance Education and Training program (GREAT).  This program has its focus in teaching students alternatives to violence, the importance of positive community action, empathy, consequence based decision-making, improved communication, anger management, and conflict resolution.  The main goal is to avoid gang membership, crime, and drug abuse.  During the program, the students planned and executed their own community service programs.  These projects ranged from environmental clean-up and food pantry donations, to the proposal of a new school fight song at Taft.  Pictured below is Mrs. Mayer's 7th grade class who graduated GREAT from St. Dennis School.  Also pictured is Mrs. Lisa Smith, Principal, Chief William Kendziora, Sgt. Bruce Kruizenga, and Ofc. Brian M. Phelan (GREAT/ DARE Coordinator).
